ARTISTS STATEMENT

Everything has meaning yet nothing can be explained. The relationship between viewer and viewed is the mirror of the creator and the created. This mirror can show or hide, reflect or deflect. Whatever it's fate it will be nothing if it is never seen. How can it be a life if it is not lived? How can hands hold meaning if they only count coins and look for holes in pockets?

I like the quietness that comes from being in the presence of the unspoken. I like the colour that has a meaning and all the stories that are told by those who speak with their hands and the objects that they have held. I like the arrangement and derangement of the ordinary and the commonplace. The relationships that crouch like hidden tigers and patient snakes for the wary and the unwary.

I like the unfurled standard of someone with something to say and their hand on the sword of their own convictions. Ready to defend what they believe is true. Ready to believe what they defend is true. Conviction and delusion built on beliefs.

I love to believe.I like to see belief. Not deception. Blind faith and the faithfully blind. Those that don't see, won't see, can't see and aren't looking but still believe. Believers who are happy to self immolate and light the way for others. They are first in the queue to all the promised lands. They are committed and don't have a fence to sit on. The abstracted, the detached and those still deciding can only have questions.

The believers have answers.Belief is born of hope whilst hope is born of belief. The energy to create is the fuel of hope being consumed by the lessons of life. Into the darkness, over the edge, into tomorrow we go with only yesterday's hopes to light the way. I like to look but not be seen and to show but not be noticed. I like to offer up what I have wrought because I like to speak with my hands and be heard. I like to understand. I will make do with confusion but only if it makes me laugh. I don't need to be understood. I don't want to foster a belief.

These are my hands and with them I speak my truth.
